MMO canistered wire anodes are the perfect impressed current anode for shallow vertical and horizontal surface groundbeds, as well as wet, marshy soil conditions where caving is likely to occur. Ideal for protecting structures such as:
The mixed metal oxide wire anode has an extremely low consumption rate, measured in terms of milligrams per ampere-year. As a result of this low consumption rate, the anode remains nearly constant in dimension during the life of the anode, providing a consistently low resistance anode. The stable anode element passes current to a highly conductive calcined petroleum coke backfill. The backfill is well compacted inside a galvanized steel canister. To allow moisture to quickly migrate to the coke backfill for increased electrical conductivity, the wire anode element is electrically connected to the steel canister – thereby accelerating the canister corrosion rate once the anode has been installed and energized.

Regardless of the type of impressed current anode used, proper ground bed design is paramount to optimum, low resistance performance. ELTECH Corporation recommends the use of quality, conductive, carbonaceous backfill, a vent pipe, and centralizers, suitable cable, and good design practices and understanding.
